SLA ambush kills 7

Sri Lankan military sources said today that seven Liberation Tigers were killed and several were wounded when troops from the Maankerni Sri Lankan Army (SLA) camp, 48 kilometers north of Batticaloa, ambushed them in the jungles by Uppaaru lagoon west of the detachment in the early hours of the morning around 5.30 a.m.
They said two soldiers were wounded in the fighting that erupted when the Tigers discovered they had walked into the SLA ambush, ahead of an army sentry by the lagoon west of Maankerni. Other SLA sources said that nine Liberation Tigers were killed. They said that the bodies of the Tigers killed in the ambush will be handed over to the main office of the LTTE in Batticaloa through ICRC today. In the shelling that followed the gun fight two civilians in Maankerni,S.Thayanithi, 4, and Seenithamby Marahathamani,40 were wounded.
