Explosives found in power station

Three suspected commandos of the Liberation Tigers infilterated the Sri Lankan capital city's well defended main power station in the early hours of the morning today and got away after fixing powerful plastic explosives to the installation's vital interiors.

However the timing or remote devices in the explosive packs did not go off for some unknown reason.

Though alerted security paersonnel at the Kelanitissa power station began firing at random the commandos suspected to be members of the LTTE made their get away unhurt.

Sources said that army experts are now at the scene trying to defuse the explosive devises attached to the vital parts of the power installation. Sorces said Colombo's induatrial and commercial sector would have faced a major crisis if the explosives had gone off.

This attack has also been carried out on a Poya day which is a public holiday.

Few civilians get on the roads on this holiday. The Kelanitissa power station is guarded by the Sri Lankan Navy and Police.
