Sources said that the suspected commandos of the LTTE had affixed explosives to two of the main diesel storage tanks in the power plant. One of the explosive devise went off.
The others are being defused. There was a power failure in certain parts of the city in the morning. The commandos had fixed about ten explosive devises to four tanks in the Kelanitissa power station. The devises had been magnetically attached. Most of them went off sources said although only two explosions were heard. All storage tanks were damaged. The army and technical experts have fixed the damage to two tanks. The others are still leaking. The first explosion set off an alarm and alerted the guards. An army officer in the vicinity of the incident said that he could not confirm the cause of the explosion but did not completely deny the attack. The government radio, however, said in a special bulletin that there is no need for the public to panic and that it was only a storage leak at the Kelanitissa power station.
