SLA arrests 10 civilians in Chilaw

Ten civilians, majority of them Tamils were taken into custody in a joint cordon and search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Police in Chilaw town from dawn to dusk on Monday. Hundreds of houses and vehicles were searched, media sources said.

Residents were subjected to severe interrogation to ensure that no strangers were present in any of the residences.

Those who failed to prove their identity and justify their presence in the location were taken in for further questioning. They are being detained in Chilaw police station.

Police said once the inquiry is completed the arrested would be produced in court.
