Tiger attacks in Jaffna continue

A fire fight broke out between the Liberation Tigers and a Sri Lankan army patrol around 5.30 a.m. in the morning today at Sangaththanai in Chavakachcheri in the Jaffna peninsula.

The attack was near the Thevakerni Kandasamy Kovil in Sangaththanai.

Sources said that there were unconfirmed reports later in the morning that four soldiers had been killed in the confrontation.

They said although there were reports that two Tigers may have also been killed in the fire fight, no bodies were brought either to Chavakachcheri or Jaffna town.

The LTTE attacked another group of Sri Lankan soldiers with grenades this morning around 9.30 a.m. in Vathiri.

Two soldiers were killed in the attack.

The Vathiri area was rounded up following the incident and the SLA arrested five Tamils. Their details were not available immediately.

The Sri Lankan army also cordoned off and searched the Thumpalai area in Pt. Pedro today.

Meanwhile in west Chankanai, a 28 year old man identified S. Pathmaseelan was shot dead today.

A single bullet had ripped through his ear into the cranium. His body is in Jaffna hospital mortuary now.
