Unidentified persons lying in ambush hurled more than two hand grenades Sunday around 8:00 p.m on a tractor carrying supplies between Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camps, at Naayanmaarkaddu junction in the outskirts of Jaffna town, causing severe damage to it, sources in Jaffna said. SLA has not reported on any causality or injury in the attack.
Soldiers in the tractor had opened fire in retaliation. The vehicle attacked was on its way to Ariyaalai area, near a deserted pond in Naayanmaarkaddu, at the time of the attack. Following the attack all traffic along this road was suspended and no one had come out of their houses in the area as the SLA imposed curfew came into effect at 9:30 p.m. They, however, were able to see the severely damaged vehicle Monday morning. Naayanmaarkaddu is located around 2 km from Nalloor Kanthasuvami temple.
