Tamil goldsmith reported missing in Batticaloa

A Tamil goldsmith from Koaddaikkallaa’ru in Batticaloa district is reported missing since 25 February after going to the Special Task Force (DTF) camp in Ka’luvaangchchikkudi police division to deliver a letter given to him by an STF commando who stopped him on his way to the local bank, according to the complaint registered by his wife with the police.
The goldsmith reported missing is Poobalasingam Srithararajah, 35. An STF commando who was on road patrol had stopped Srithararajah as he was on his way to the bank from home to Ka’luvaangnchchikkudi with his wife on his motorcycle and gave him a letter to be delivered to the said STF camp. Srithararajah dropped his wife at the bank and proceeded to the STF camp after which he had gone missing with his motorcycle. The husband and wife were on their way to redeem a piece of jewelry they had pawned. Srithararajah had 1,50,000 rupees with him when he went to the STF camp. Complaints have also been made to International Committee of Red Cross and Human Rights Commission offices in Batticaloa.
