SLA conducts search operation in Vavuniyaa

Sri Lanka Army conducted a cordon and search operation covering Second Cross Street in Vavuniyaa town Wednesday from morning till afternoon. The SLA took all occupants leaving a single person in their residents, business places and other institutions near the Soosai Pillaiyar Kulam junction for inquiry where they were subjected to severe interrogation.

All were subjected to severe body checks and their national identity cards were also scrutinized to ensure that they were not forged. Police said they carried the operation on receipt of intelligence reports that strangers suspected to be LTTE cadres had infiltrated in the area.

Normal life in the area was disturbed due to the operation.
