Residents of Jaffna peninsula, following a media announcement that the Defence Ministry restrictions on obtaining CDMA telephones has been completely lifted, had been given the phones on application to the agents including Sri Lanka Tele Communication Ltd (SLTC), Dialogue and Lanka Bell. But, the phones have not been issued connection due to a new restriction imposed by the Defence Ministry, sources in Jaffna said. An official of the SLTC said that the Defence Ministry has called for the full details of the applicants and the connections could be given only after obtaining ‘clearance’ from the Defence Ministry.
Following the Defence Ministry directive SLTC is engaged in collecting the particulars of all the applicants, SLTC officials in Jaffna said. Though announcements are continued to be made in Jaffna on lifting the various restrictions Defence Ministry has not lifted any of its restrictions, the sources added.
