731 IDP students in Vavuniyaa sit Year 5 scholarship examination

Save the Children, a non-governmental organization (NGO), provided cardboards to internally displaced Year Five students in the internment camps in Vavuniyaa who sat for the Year 5 scholarship examination Sunday due to the non-availability of desk and tables in the centres located in the camps, educational sources said.
5,731 IDP students in Vavuniyaa camps sat the Year 5 scholarship examination in Vavuniyaa and 212 sat in Jaffna district. In some centres in IDP camps in Vavuniyaa desks and tables were not provided to the students and hence they were provided with cardboards. Students were asked to sit on the ground and keep white sheets on the cardboards placed on the ground and write, education officials in Vavuniyaa said. Save the Children also provided these students with buns and milk during the examination. 20, 24,318 students sat the examination in the island. Of them 69,984 are Tamil medium students and the rest Sinhala medium students.
