Thai worker allegedly raped by SLA soldier

A Thailand female garment instructor working for a multi national garment factory in Warakapola in Kegalle district was allegedly raped by a Sri lankan Army (SLA) soldier and a another person inside her official residence at Thulhiriya last Thursday night, police said.

The suspected soldier is attached to an army camp in Anuradhapura, according to the police. The Thai national has left the country on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the SLA has discharged nearly 25,000 Sri Lankan military personnel, who deserted its forces at the height of the war. During the height of the war, the deserters were re-deployed in battlefront.

On Friday, a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier and explosive expert attached to Minneriya camp in Polonnaruwa was arrested by Kurunegala Police in connection with the school van bomb blast that killed a 11 year old girl student and injured 11 others including school children and the driver.
