IDPs brought to Jaffna from Vavuniyaa camps

The number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) internment camps in Vavuniyaa brought to Jaffna since 5 August, claiming that they will be resettled, has exceeded 41,000, sources in Jaffna said. The IDPs from Vanni district among the people brought have to stay in camps if they do not have any relatives to take charge of them, the sources added.

2,945 persons of 933 families were brought Friday to Jaffna through A9 road and many among these are from the Divisional Secretariat areas of Thellippazhai and Changkaanai.

Persons who were displaced due to the establishment of SLA High Security Zones too are among the IDPs brought to Jaffna Friday.

Meanwhile, persons who had fled Vanni by sea and land during SLA offensives and held in Thenmaraadchi SLA camps are being released.

A group of IDPs from Kodikaamam Government Tamil Mixed School was released recently.

The persons released have to stay with the relatives who took the responsibility of looking after them according to SLA regulation.
