Batticaloa fishermen asked to register their boats

Sri Lanka Fisheries Department has warned fishermen in the Batticaloa district to register their crafts before November 20 or face prosecution. Those failing to register the boats with Batticaloa Fisheries Department will be prosecuted in law courts, sources in Batticaloa said.

Fisheries department officials said more than five thousand fishing crafts are in the Batticaloa district without registration obtained from the department. Hence it causes security problems in the district, they said.
