A confrontation between the Liberation Tigers and the Sri Lankan army at Kerudavil near Thondamanar in Jaffna was reported today. The confrontation took place around 11 a.m. in the morning.
Sources said that the army had sustained casualties. Details of this, however, were not available. The bodies of two suspected Tigers who had been killed in the incident were handed over by the army to the Manthikai hospital later in the afternoon. The SLA ,meanwhile, began tightening up security in Jaffna town today. Sources said this was being done in view of the Maveerar week. A part of the First Cross street and the Main Street in Jaffna town have been closed for vehicles from today. The two roads offer access to the area in which the newly built Jaffna prison, the civil courts and the office of the 51-4 Brigade are located. The Bazaar street barricade has come up again and two army sentry points have been established near the Hatton National Bank in the Jaffna town. The army was further alarmed when LTTE posters were found pasted inside the Jaffna kachcheri and its outer walls this morning.
