PLOTE condemns NATO attack

Hundreds of protestors marched under the PLOTE banner this afternoon in Vavuniya shouting slogans and bearing placards condemning the NATO attack on Yugaslavia.

The procession and demonstration in the northern border town wound its way to the Kachcheri where the marchers led by the PLOTE's Vavuniya district organiser S.Kanakaratnam, Urban Council (UC) Chairman G.T Linganathan and UC member K.Nadesapillai handed over a resolution condemning the United States of America for attacking Yugaslavia.

The PLOTE's condemnation was given to Vavuniya additional GA S.Ragunaathapillai to be transmitted through the Sri Lankan president to the US embassy in Colombo.

The demonstrators burnt a map of the US and the American national flag following the march this afternoon.

Sources in Vavuniya said that Manikkam Daasan, the PLOTE's military commander (who is currently the paramilitary group's de facto leader) had organised the march and demonstration.

Daasan was trained in the early eighties in Lebanon by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
