JVP forms new political alliance to contest general election

The controversy over the election symbol among the joint opposition parties has escalated with the formation of a new political front by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP). JVP has named the new front as the Democratic National Alliance (DNA). The election symbol of the DNA is trophy, political sources said.

The JVP has taken this decision due to the refusal of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) to drop its stand that it would contest the April 8 parliamentary election under its elephant symbol, sources said.
