Eastern University VC resigns, student union dissolved

Eastern University student union was dissolved Thursday while Vice-chancellor, Professor N. Pathmanathan of the university, has resigned from his post, sources in Batticaloa said. University students, including some of the representatives of the student body, had forced Professor Pathmanathan to relinquish his post, the sources added.

Meanwhile, most of the students of Eastern University had informed in writing to the university administration that they have nothing to do with the pressure exerted on the Vice-chancellor to resign.

However, the Acting Vice-chancellor of Eastern University, Professor K. Premkumar, said that the Student Union was dissolved on the request of most of the undergrads, the sources said.
