Jaffna Police Chief, Uthaya de Silva, said that there were no election related violence worth mentioning so far in a meeting held in Jaffna town with the representatives of the political parties and independent groups contesting parliamentary elections, sources in Jaffna said. The political parties and the independent groups co-operate sufficiently with the police, he added.
Meanwhile, pasting wall posters supporting candidates of political parties and independent groups has escalated in Jaffna town. Though police remove the posters defying election regulations during the day they appear over night and the police find it to hard to keep up with this task, Uthaya de Silva said. The wall posters are printed in large numbers by the traders who sponsor their favourite candidates, the sources added.
