4, 15,432 public servants eligible for postal voting

4,15,432 government servants are eligible for postal voting in the
forthcoming parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka. 4,77,110 public servants applied for postal voting. Applications of 61,678 of them were rejected for various reasons. However there is an increase in the number of public servants eligible for postal voting by 14, 314 than during the presidential election held on January 26 this year, election secretariat said.
Meanwhile, the Election Secretariat has begun distributing ballot
papers for the postal votes, according to a press release by the Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayake.Respective. Returning Officers in all district electoral districts started receiving security/insured packets of ballot papers to hand over to the postal voters. Posting voting will take place on March 25 and 26. The Returning Officers are directed to call the postal voters and afford them the opportunity of exercising their secret ballot. Respective Returning Officers in turn have been instructed to post the sealed ballot paper packets under insured/security mail to the respective District Returning Officers. Returning Officers have also been ordered to open the insured security packet of ballot papers in the presence of the relevant postal voter.
