SLA search in Jaffna suburbs

A large part of Jaffna town was cordorned off and checked by the SLA from the early hours of the morning today from 5.30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The army searched most of the houses on Main street, Temple road, Milavu junction and Convent Road.
Two youth, Sivaraasa Sasikumar, 23, and Francis Jeyakumar, 24, of 13/2 Madam street were arrested by troops searching the area. Both were working as assitants to a Mason said their relatives this afternoon. They said they have reported the arrest to the Huamn Rights Commission in Jaffna town. Many residents were closely questioned by the army during the house to house searching. Sources said that the army seems to have rounded up the area on information that LTTE suspects were in these suburbs. Meanwhile the Sri Lankan Police cordoned off and searched Kudhaveddi in Veeramunai in the Batticaloa district after a reserve policeman was shot dead by unidentified gunmen yesterday. Two youths were arrested during the search operation.
