Two killed in Kandy bomb

Two civilians were killed and three were wounded when a bomb went off in a bus parked in Kandy town this morning around 7.40 a.m.

They have been identified as Thangarajah Mathivaran, 20, of Periya Porathivu in the Batticaloa district and Suppaiah Selvaraasa. No details of the latter are known said Police sources.

Police sources in the hill country town said that the bus was parked in the Goods Shed station. The bus was about to leave to Polannaruwa.

The town was tense following the explosion said a senior Police official. Action is being taken to keep the situation under control he said, adding that there was a lot of panic as hundreds of people were coming into town for Sunday shopping when the bomb went off.
