Soldier found in possession of explosive

A member of the Sri Lankan Armed forces was arrested in possession of a powerful bomb in Kurnegale, 60 km north west of Kandy, this morning during a joint operation by the Chilaw and Bingiriya Police.
The police said that the bomb was discovered when they checked a three wheeler at Kurunegale junction. Acording to the Officer in Charge of the Bingiriya Police Station the SLA soldier, Premaratne, said that he was stationed at Madhu in the Vanni and was on his way home on leave. However, Premaratne, had not explained why he was in possession of a bomb. Meanwhile the Sri Lankan Police arrested a female employee of the Batticaloa Hospital this afternoon in connection with a bomb blast in the hill town of Kandy yesterday. The woman, Seethevy, has been taken to Colombo for further investigations, said police sources. The police said that they are conducting investigations. Meanwhile a time bomb exploded near a police post in the eastern town of Eravur around 9.30 a.m this morning. The bomb was fixed to the wall of an abandoned boutique near the police post that is about 200 metres from the Eruvar Police station, said sources there. No one was wounded in the explosion. The Police said they have recovered a watch and a battery from the area.
