Tigers attack Eravur Police post

The Liberation Tigers attacked a Sri Lankan Police post at Vammiadi, near Eravur town, 17 kilometers north of Batticaloa, this evening around 5.45 p.m. wounding Nimal Ratnayaka, 36, a military trained Policeman.

A civilian was killed in the cross fire.

The person's body was damaged beyond recognition by mortar shells fired by the Police in retaliation said sources.

Two civilians, Kannan, 21 and Thevarajah 29, were also wounded in the cross fire.

A time bomb went off at this point this morning before the police arrived for duty.

A claymore mine was detected by a SLA patrol in Manaltharai lane near Jaffna town this morning around 8.30 a.m.

The mine was exploded by the troops.

Tigers wounded in mortar attack - SLA

The SLA said that it's mortar fire hit a tractor carrying a group of Tigers in the earlier hours of the morning at Ambakamam, 7 kilometres north of Mankulam.

SLA Headquarters sources in Colombo said that 10 Tigers were believed to be wounded in the mortar attack.

Red Cross driver arrested

The SLA at the JOSSOP camp informed the Vavuniya branch of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society that its driver, Nagamanj Easwaranathan (earlier named in error as Naakamani Deivendranathan), was arrested by it on Saturday night.

The army told the SLRC officials that he was arrested on suspicion of having links with the Liberation Tigers and would be released once inquiries were completed.

The Sri Lanka Red Cross (SLRC) is engaged in transporting the dead of both the SLA and the Liberation Tigers (LTTE) killed in confrontations and recovered by the opposite party.

They also transport the bodies of persons who die in Colombo and other southern areas to their relatives living in the Vanni areas not controlled by the SLA.

The SLRC also transport mail bags, question papers for examinations conducted by the government in the Vanni region, as its neutrality enables it to cross the defence lines of both sides.
