ICRC to escort lorry convoys carrying essential commodities to the Vanni and Sri Lanka Army arrests two youths in Jaffna.
ICRC agrees to escort Vanni convoysVavuniya Kachcheri sources said today that the ICRC has now agreed to escort lorry convoys carrying food and essential commodities to the Vanni. The convoys according to them will resume on April 16. The convoys will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The number of lorries which is currently 20 per convoy will be increased to thirty to ease the severe shortages in the Vanni said the sources.
Two youths arrested Two youth, Suppaiah Sasiharan, 23, of Erlalai North and Arani Santhiran,
23, were arrested by the SLA on April 11. Both were taken into custody by the army in their homes. Meanwhile the bodies of two persons believed to have been killed in a clash with
the SLA recently near Muhamaalai in the Thenmaradchi division of Jaffna were
handed over to the Jaffna hospital by the Sri Lankan Police last evening. The bodies are yet to be identified.
