Sri Lanka to sign CEPA with India

The Government of Sri Lanka Thursday announced that it would sign the
controversial Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with
India with some amendments. Sri Lankan Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, on Thursday announced the move at a media briefing in his
capacity as cabinet spokesman.
Mr. Rambukwella said the signing of the CEPA was delayed due to protests
from some quarters and said that the CEPA was focused at the
bilateral talks between Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. As Mr. Rajapaksa explained the protests from certain quarters, the Indian Prime
Minister agreed to bring some amendments, Rambukwella told media. The Sri Lankan minister said that Sri Lanka would gain more benefits than what has been reported earlier.
