Governor's mobile service a success

Major General Asoka Jayawardena, the Governor of the Northeastern province said in a press conference at the end of a two day Governor's Mobile Service in Vavuniya today that action would be taken to send the stranded people of Vanni in Vavuniya, back to their homes.

Major General Santha Kotegoda, who was present at the conference, said that the people would be sent in batches.

The Governor said that the main problem people placed before the authorities at the Mobile Service was their difficulty in gaining a permanent residential pass that would allow them to travel south of Vavuniya as and when they wanted.

He said that measures had been taken to issue the necessary travel passes to relatives who wanted to visit detained prisoners at Anuradhapura and patients who have been admitted to Anuradhapura for further medical care.

He also said that the Heads of Departments and government servants employed permanently in the district will be issued with a permanent residential pass on the recommendation of the Government Agent.

He told reporters that the Vavuniya Mobile Service was successful in identifying problems faced by the people and solving them within the limits of civil and military procedures.

The Governor said that the next Mobile Service will be held at Jaffna, if the transport facilities are restored, otherwise it will be held in Batticaloa.
