Public servants to receive only Rs.1000 salary increase

State sector employees are likely to receive only one thousand rupees as salary increase with effect from July. The Budget that is to be presented in parliament Tuesday afternoon by the Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne is to reveal the salary increase, sources in Colombo said.

Earlier some government sources said public servants are to receive a salary increase of two thousand five hundred rupees in the 2010 Budget.

Now it has been reduced to one thousand rupees, government sources said.

The salary increase will be given in two stages under the budget and this increase would cost the government Rs.7 billion, government officials said.
