The Liberation Tigers attacked a Sri Lankan army patrol last night around 8 p.m. at Kanakampuliyady, northwest of Chavakachcheri in Jaffna. Full details of the fighting are not yet available.
The SLA has not said anything officially about the incident today. Reliable sources close to the Sri Lankan army in Jaffna claimed that eight soldiers have been affected in the ambush. They said some of these soldiers might be dead, but could not confirm as the SLA does not bring soldiers wounded in action to the Jaffna hospital for treatment. Meanwhile Sources close to the SLA in Jaffna confirmed today that nine soldiers were killed in Kerudavil on Monday when the LTTE ambushed a Sri Lankan army patrol in the area. (see TN report) Security of the Jaffna town was further beefed up today by the SLA with the induction of more troops into the area. The SLA established another check point today at Arasady road in the town. Meanwhile the EPRLF which maintains a vey low key office in Jaffna, put up posters in the town to commemorate their late leader Padmanabha.
