Fonseka vows to break out of prison to protect masses

Sarath Fonseka, former commander of the Sri Lanka Army while leaving the Colombo High Court Friday told media persons gathered there that he along with others remanded in prison by Sri Lanka government are prepared to break out of prisons and protect the people. He has been indicted in the trial at bar of the High Court for causing disrepute to the government by giving an interview to the Sunday leader.

In that interview he had stated that the Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa gave orders to Major General Shavindra de Silva not to spare any LTTE cadre coming with white flag to surrender but to shoot them all dead.

The inquiry scheduled to be held Friday was put off for another day due to the power failure.

Thereafter Fonseka was escorted to prison where he is serving 30 months rigorous imprisonment on the decision of the Second Court Martial that he had violated the tender procedure in procuring arms to the Sri Lanka Army.

When he came out of the court premises he was surrounded by media persons. He told them that he and others imprisoned by SL government are prepared to break out of prisons and to protect the masses.
