63 war-damaged Kovils in Trincomalee need urgent repair

Sixty three Saiva Kovils out of the 343 in the Trincomalee district are in a state of repair as they have been partly destroyed or damaged in the conflict. They urgently need financial assistance for their reconstruction and renovation. A memorandum detailing the damages was handed over to the to Sri Lanka's Prime Minister, D. M. Jayaretna, by the leader of the Trinco delegation led by Mr. Arulsubramaniam, General Secretary of the Trincomalee Koneswaram Kovil, at a discussion over the state of affairs of Saiva Kovils in the district held at the Trincomalee district secretariat auditorium on Tuesday afternoon.
According to a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister and Minister for Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs Mr.D.M.Jayaretna when he paid an official visit to Trincomalee on Tuesday by a delegation of Saiva Kovils the total number of Saiva Kovils in the district: Trincomalee -120, Moothoor-115, Thampalakamam-22, Kuchchaveli-27, Eachchilampathu-37, Pankulam (Morawewa)-65, Kanthalaai-05, Seruvila-03, and Kinniya-09. The total number of Saiva Kovils that are to be urgently reconstructed and restored: - Trincomalee-10, Moothoor- 15, Thampalakamam-07, Kuchchaveli-08,Eachchilampathu-10,
Pankulam (Morawewa)-04, Kanthalaai-01, Seruvila-03, and Kinniya-04, the memorandum stated.
