JVP abandons press meet in Jaffna due to death threats

Jathika Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) group led by parliamentarian Sunil Handunneththi who were attacked by unidentified operatives in Jaffna Sunday evening abandoned the press meet that was to be held Monday around 1:00. p.m in Uthayan Lodge in Nalloor due to death threats to the proprietors of the lodge, Sunil Handunneththi told the reporters who had been invited, before leaving the lodge with his companions.
Sunil Handunneththi said that some persons had threatened to blast Uthayan lodge with bomb and the proprietors had asked the JVP group to leave at once. During this time, many Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and policemen had taken position in Kaiylaasa Pi’l’laiyaar Koayil area in Nalloor where Uthayan Lodge is located. The JVP group left the lodge saying that they will be organizing a protest demonstration in Jaffna town Monday evening demanding the release of person disappeared after arrest by SLA in Jaffna peninsula. Uthayan Lodge where the JVP group was staying is run by Uthayan Tamil daily published in Jaffna peninsula.
