Teachers Union condemns one-day pay cut in East

Eastern Provincial Council (EPC) has cut one-day pay of teachers in the province from their wages for January. The chairman of Ceylon Teachers' Union, Joseph Stalin, has condemned the act as political bankruptcy of the EPC that has bypassed the regulations for such wage cut. While the people of the other provinces and the larger international community have come forward to help the flood victims, the EPC has been engaged in cutting the wages of the victims themselves in the name of flood relief, the union said.

The EPC run by TMVP paramilitary leader S. Chandrakanthan (Pillayan) has been widely blamed locally in the province for not being able to channel the relief provided by the International Community to the flood victims.

Unable to exert any pressure on Colombo, the EPC and its paramilitary men have been attempting to divert the efforts of the community itself, from abroad and from the other provinces, to gain political publicity among the public.

While the EPDP paramilitary leader in the North and Colombo's minister Douglas Devananda has been publicly claiming that the collaborative politics was the only way forward for Tamils, the paramilitary factions of East run by Colombo's deputy minister Muralitharan and chief minister Chandrakanthan, have come under increased criticism by the public for the failure of their collaborative politics with the genocidal regime in Colombo.
