A time bomb was discovered behind the Batticaloa main post office today, one STF commando was killed in the Ampara district and one civilian was killed and two were wounded in a mine explosion in Jaffna .

Bomb near Batticaloa post office

A time bomb was discovered behind the Batticaloa main post office this afternoon around 3.10 p.m. The SLA which is camped behind the post office rounded up and searched the premises for more than two hours.

Two postal workers, mail sorting officer K. Nadarajah and Ulakeswaram were taken into custody said sources.

STF commando killed

The Liberation Tigers attacked an STF patrol last night on the Sakamam road south of Akkaraipattu town in the Ampara district. One STF commando identified as Dharmachandra 25, was killed in the ambush, said sources.

Civilian killed in mine

One civilian was killed and two were wounded when a bullock cart carrying thatch ran over a pressure mine this morning around 11 a.m. on Mallakam court road in Mallakam in Jaffna.

The dead person was identified as Chinnaiah Kandasamy,43. The injured were in another bullock cart behind that of the deceased said Jaffna hospital sources.
