SLA operation in Moondrumurippu

Areas from Madhu Road junction up to Madhu Church have been brought under the guard of military trained Police from today, said sources. Earlier, the forward defence lines (FDL's) to guard the road to Madhu Church were manned by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA).

The new arrangement has been made to enable the troops in these areas to be the deployed to battle front to conduct further operations into the LTTE held areas, sources said.

Meanwhile, sources said that a limited operation was started this morning around 8 0 clock, north of Moondrumurippu, in the Vanni region.

Villagers in nearby areas said that they were able to hear the sounds of explosions and gunfire.
