Grenade attacks rock Vavuniya

A spate of grenade attacks rocked Vavuniya town today. A grenade was lobbed at the Telecommunication building at around 3.30 this afternoon and 15 minutes later another exploded near Mannar road.

Another grenade was thrown in Bazzar street, but did not explode. The areas was cordoned off until 7.00pm, when the SLA's bomb squad diffused it.

No one was injured in these explosions. But sources said that the explosions within the town had heightened anxiety amongst the SLA as Maveerer week gets underway.
