Colombo deploys EPDP leader against Tamil Nadu, India

[TamilNet, Friday, 20 April 2012, 23:43 GMT]
Sabotaging the civic efforts to resolve the disputes between the Tamil fishermen across the Palk Strait, Mr. Douglas Devananda, a minister in the cabinet of Rajapaksa regime and an SL paramilitary leader, on Friday, vowed to take 5,000 fishermen from Jaffna in 1,000 boats to India, against the Tamil Nadu fishermen, who enter the waters off Jaffna peninsula and destroy the livelihood of the local fishermen in the peninsula. The EPDP leader also blamed India for not having completed the housing scheme on time in an effort to hijack the sentiments prevailing amongst the people against New Delhi for its abetment of Colombo's genocidal war against Eezham Tamils, fishermen representatives in Point Pedro told TamilNet Friday.

Mr. Douglas Devananda, a minister in the genocidal cabinet of Colombo government, never voiced against the subjugation of Eezham Tamil fishermen, who are confronted in their seas by the SL military backed fishermen from South and are being deprived of their land in the escalating occupation of coastal stretches in the name of military and trade zones, fishermen representatives further said.

Mr. Devananda, who held a press meeting at his paramilitary office in the Srithar theatre in Jaffna, also blamed the Indian government for the delay in the housing scheme.

“The Indian government has not even managed to complete 1,000 of the promised 50,000 houses so far. How many years would they need to construct the remaining 49,000 houses,” he asked.

“I never trust the promises given by Indian leaders,” Devananda, who is also a Sri Lankan minister, further stated.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. (retd) G.A. Chandrasiri, the SL colonial governor of North and war-crimes alleged former commander of the occupying SLA, has also gone on record openly blaming India for the delay in the construction of houses promised to the war victims, on Thursday, after meeting the visiting parliamentary delegation from India.
