Two Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and a Police constable were wounded in a claymore mine blast in the balcony of an upstair building by the Parameswara junction on the Palaly road this morning around 11.20 said sources in Jaffna town.
The building sustained little damage due to the blast, according to residents in the area. Police sources in Jaffna town claimed that the claymore mine appeared to have been well concealed in a nearby tree. The SLA and Police have a sentry on the balcony of this building. Sources said that the mine could have gone off when they were routinely checking the spot for safety. Police expressed concern that the Liberation Tigers were able to set off a claymore mine on the Palaly road which is the most vital supply and military traffic route for the army in the Jaffna peninsula. The Liberation Tigers have stepped up claymore mine attacks in Jaffna recently.
