The Voice of Tigers (VoT) radio said in its night news broadcast yesterday that the Liberation Tigers have agreed to open a supply route to the Vanni through Mankulam.
The radio, quoting a quoting a press release issued by the LTTE's political wing, said the decision had been made in view of the hardships endured by the people in the Vanni as a result of the former supply route to the region being closed. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) had faced difficulties taking food and essentials to the Vanni, the radio said. Meanwhile the Liberation Tigers announced in the Vanni last evening that they had fired long range artillery in the direction of the military detachment which had been visited by Sri Lanka's deputy minister for defence, Gen. Anuruddha Ratwatte, earlier in the day. They also said that the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) had launched an artillery barrage the previous night on Pandiyan Kulam in the Vanni.
