Concern over NMAT's case

The Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) MP for Kandy, Rajaratnam said the National Movement Against Terrorism (NMAT) should be banned. He said the NMAT was trying to foment trouble in the tea estate region, and the Sinhala organisation was filing a case against the CWC to this end.

Rajaratnam said the NMAT's action would soon spill over into events which would destroy the peace in the hill country, which he said, was the only place in Sri Lanka which has not seen communal violence.

The NMAT, a hard-line Sinhala organisation, which claims to have over five thousand members and advocates stronger prosecution of the war as the solution to the Tamil question, has been at loggerheads with the CWC in recent times.
