SLA informer shot dead

A youth identified as 'Jeya' was shot dead in a suburb of Batticaloa this evening around 5.30 p.m. Sources said he had been operating with the Sri Lankan army's military intelligence unit in the Batticaloa town.
He had formerly worked with the LTTE said sources. He was on his way home to Iruthayapuram, a suburb of Batticaloa where security has been intensified by the Sri Lankan army for the Maveerar week. The Police in the area had fired indiscriminately from their positions nearby following the incident. This is the fourth army informant to be shot dead since Friday (Two in Vavuniya and two in Batticaloa) . Meanwhile the SLA and the SLAF in Batticaloa fired mortar and heavy artillery in the general direction of Paduvankarai - the large western hinterland of the Batticaloa district controlled by the Liberation Tigers.
