Unidentified gunmen shot and killed Ida Hamilitta, 21, a former member of the Liberation Tigers, at her home in Pallimunai, Mannar, at around 1.30 a.m. this morning, said sources.
Five unidentified men had come to her house and asked the mother, Anton Antho Segrado, about the whereabouts of her daughter, the sources said. When Ida came out the unidentified men fired several bullets at her. The mother fled to the nearby police station. When she came back with the police, they found Ida's body and 5 spent bullets, said sources. Magistrate, M. Ilancheliyan, visited the scene of murder. Ida was a former member of the LTTE who had been in close contact with the Sri Lanka Army (SLA), sources said. Two of her brothers were also shot dead two years ago by unidentified gunmen.
