Youth arrested for photographing vehicle

A muslim youth was taken into custody by the Trincomalee Police on Monday evening when he was taking a photograph of the vehicle of the Governor of the North East province, Major Asoka Jeyawardene.

At the time of arrest, the Governor was participating in the Local Government Week celebrations held at Trincomalee St. Mary's Girls College, police sources said.

The Police have sent the film roll used by the suspected youth to Colombo for printing, to determine whether he had taken photographs of prohibited places, sources added.

According to police, the youth was seen taking photographs of the events at the school auditorium.

The youth has been detained in the Trincomalee police station for further inquiries, sources said.
