The All Ceylon Muslim Teachers' Congress and the Government General Employees Union representing the non-academic staff attached to the schools in the north east province have decided to support the one-day token strike of the Ceylon Tamil Teachers Union (CTTU) scheduled to be held on July 19th.
The CTTU has already informed the President and the Minister of Education and Higher Education that all teachers, principals and non-academic staff serving in the north east province would stage a one-day strike if the authorities fail to meet a delegation of the union for talks in regard to its nine demands, on or before July 14. CTTU sources today said that till Tuesday noon they have not received any favourable reply from the ministry of education and higher education in regard to their ultimatum. CTTU sources further said that the one-day strike would be held on July 19 as scheduled without any change.
