Public announcements in Vavuniya town

The Police handed over the bullet riddled body of a youth, in his mid twenties, to the Vavuniya hospital this morning for identification and inquest, said hospital sources.

Police said that the body was found near the bund road of a Vavuniya irrigation tank off Horowapothana Road.

Sources said that the dead youth has been identified as Pratheepan, 24, of Thonikkal, 2 km south of Vavuniya town.

Meanwhile the SLA brought a woman to Vavuniya town today, whom they said was a member of the LTTE who surrendered to the security forces at Pappaamoddai last month during Phase II of Operation Rana Gossa.

The SLA escorted the woman around the town where she announced over loud speakers that the LTTE was ill treating it's members.

The woman made the announcement, under SLA supervision, in more than two places in the town area, said Vavuniya residents.
