Two youths shot dead

The Special Task Force (STF) troops shot and killed two youths near the Murugan Temple in Pesaalai in the north-western Mannar around 11 a.m yesterday, sources said.

The STF said the youths were members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

The youths were shot when they attempted to attack the troops, said the STF.

The STF claimed that they recovered identity cards, cyanide capsules and a grenade from the youths.

Meanwhile, fishermen in Mannar found the body of a woman, estimated to be about 40 years old, washed ashore yesterday morning.

Mannar district judge ordered the body to be handed over to the Mannar hospital.

The cause of death was not known, sources said.
