The VoT said in its nightly new bulletin last night that artillery shells fired by Rana Gosha troops towards the Paandiyankulam area yesterday evening damaged the school building forcing about 500 civilians to flee the area to a safer place.
G.Maruthanayagam, the Principal of Paandiyankulam School, was quoted as saying that the artillery shells fired by the SLA had damaged the building and had caused injuries to many students. There had also been shelling on Monday night causing damage to buildings in the area, said the radio. The library, the office of the Assistant Government agent and the office of the Agrarian Commissioner of Agricultural services were badly damaged in the shelling and there are no other buildings in which to relocate these offices.
