Jaffna doctors warn of critical drugs shortage

Medical officials in Jaffna warned that a tragic situation could develop in the peninsula due to the shortage of drugs.

Only one third of the necessary amount of drugs have been distributed to the peninsula, they said.

Shortage of the day to day medical drugs like Panadol and Disprin is also reported.

Doctors said that they are especially concerned for patients from outlying areas of the Jaffna peninsula.

The private sector is also unable to transport medical drugs into the Jaffna peninsula.

Triposha, nutritious food for children, has not been sent to Jaffna for the past six months.

Doctors have said that a critical situation will develop unless there is an improvement in the distribution of medicines to the peninsula.

Meanwhile the Jaffna branch of the Tamil Eelam administrative service has sent a letter to the Sri Lanka bus depot in Pointpedro asking the latter to take immediate steps to arrange a proper bus service to Vadamaradchi east.

The letter was signed by the head of the Tamil Eelam administrative service, Mr. S. Painthamilan.
