STF round up in the east

The Special Task Force units from the Araipattai, Mannmunai, and Kurukal Madam camps rounded up the residents of the Thalan Kuda area in Batticaloa yeasterday.

The search operation started at 5.30 in the morning and went on until 10.30am.

People in the area said they did not understand why the search operation was conducted.

Two people were severly beaten-up and are unable to walk as a result of the injuries they sustained.

STF troops hung one of the pair upside down from a palmyra tree and then continued the severe beating.

People said both of them almost died as a result of the assualts.
