SLA officer killed in suicide blast

Initial reports indicated that a woman suicide bomber had triggered the explosion that killed the major. Vaakarai is 56 kilometers north of Batticaloa.

Major. Karunanayaka was in a hut inside the forward defence perimeter of the Vaakarai camp with his body guards at the time of the attack said sources.

A woman suicide bomber had broken through the sentry and exploded herself before soldiers on duty could stop her said sources.

The SLA officer has been working in the Valaichenai and Vaakarai areas since 1990.
