Youth arrested over Kaithady blast

The SLA arrested and detained a youth from Kaithady east in Jaffna east this morning in connection with a bomb blast near one of its camps in the area on Sunday August 8.

The youth, V.Jayakumar, 19, had been discharged recently from the Jaffna hospital where he was treated for injuries caused by an army rampage in Nunavil.

Jayakumar was among the civilians who were indiscriminately assaulted by SLA soldiers following a claymore mine blast that hit the bus in which they were travelling on the Kandy road at Nunavil.

Sources said that the youth was in the neighbourhood when a bomb went off on Sunday close to an army camp in central Kaithady. He had dropped his National Identity Card (NIC) while running with the panic stricken people in the area following the blast.

The SLA found Jeyakumar's NIC while searching the place later.
